DOJ delays ADA Title II web and mobile compliance; MPO to seek on-call accessibility support

Staff reported the Department of Justice pushed back enforcement of ADA Title II requirements for web content and mobile apps by one year; the MPO plans to issue an RFQ for on-call help to update websites, PowerPoints and reports for low-vision accessibility.
MPO staff told the board that the Department of Justice has delayed the compliance deadline for ADA Title II web content and mobile applications by one year after many MPOs nationwide were unable to meet the original deadline.
"The Department of Justice wisely decided to roll give everybody an extra year to get our websites up to date, to get our report formats so that they're readable..." the staff member said, adding that the MPO still needs to ensure materials are accessible and that staff is preparing a request for qualifications (RFQ) for on-call assistance to update websites and presentations. Staff noted that PowerPoint and packet formats must meet low-vision accessibility standards and that the MPO will include this work in an on-call contract if approved.
Board members suggested reaching out to the County Tax Association's technology group and other providers that offer templates and support. Staff agreed to investigate available resources and to proceed with RFQ preparations.
