Council approves amendment to IT services contract after questions about outsourcing and staffing

Troy, the staff presenter, described the scope and staffing context: "This particular amendment here before you today is to provide for the continued implementation of new network equipment as well as the configuration of some of the existing equipment..." He added that the original award resulted from an RFP and that the department currently has 23 funded positions with seven vacancies. Councilman Tim Reagan asked whether a roughly $626,000 increase (as cited in discussion) was for hardware or service; Troy said the amendment covers services and that the city must balance hiring in-house with using vendors for specialized, short-term work. The council approved the amendment on a motion; the clerk announced an all-yes vote and the motion carried.
