The Abilene City Council approved Conditional Use Permit 2026-04 for outdoor pickleball courts at 1200 Rustwood Drive on April 26 after a staff presentation and public hearing.
Tim Littlejohn, director of planning and development services, presented the request and said "we did receive 6 in favor and 0 opposed" and that the plan met the criteria for approval. The applicant's agent, Tal Fillingham, told the council the plan of operation includes netting designed to reduce wind impacts and noise and that hours and lighting were addressed in the concept plan.
The council had no objections after hearing the agent and voted to approve the CUP. Staff said the outdoor courts will complement planned indoor courts in the reuse of an existing theater-style building and that conditions in the plan of operation are intended to limit neighborhood impacts.
