A representative of SCAN, the local arts organization, addressed the council with a multi-decade history of the town theater and SCAN’s stewardship of the space.
The speaker traced renovations back to volunteer efforts beginning around 1999 and earlier work after mid-20th-century floods; they said the town bought the building “in 1930, for $5,000” and emphasized tens of thousands of dollars of investment by arts groups from the wider region. “We truly view it as a community space for this area,” the speaker said, noting the venue hosts plays, music and classes for Scottsville and neighboring towns.
Councilors thanked the speaker and noted the ongoing value of arts programming. The council did not take formal action on the presentation tonight but recorded appreciation and invited further coordination about future events and facility use.
