Chad Zimmel elected chairman; Commissioner Klages chosen vice chair at Big Stone County reorganization

The Big Stone County Board of Commissioners elected Commissioner Chad Zimmel as chairman and Commissioner Klages as vice chairman during its reorganizational meeting on Jan. 6, 2026. Vice Chairman Athey called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.; after two calls for nominations the board voted unanimously to cast a unanimous ballot for Zimmel as chairman and for Klages as vice chairman.
Commissioner Klages moved to cast the unanimous ballot for Zimmel, and Commissioner Radermacher seconded; the motion carried without dissent. For the vice chair position Commissioner Athey moved the unanimous ballot for Klages with Commissioner Thyne seconding, and that motion also carried unanimously. The elections were conducted at the start of the meeting before routine business and committee appointments were addressed.
