Staff previews Aug. 25 comprehensive-plan session, reports building cost overruns and HRSD sewer coordination

Lee Pammett gave a brief staff report that included scheduling and operational updates. Pammett said the county’s consultant is drafting the first chapters of the comprehensive plan and that the commission’s first of four joint work sessions with the Board of Supervisors will be Tuesday, August 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the Parksley library. "That will be basically the same format, as the joint session in March," he said, and staff will forward pre-reading materials in advance.
Pammett also reported the county building project has experienced cost increases from HVAC and septic work (including an unanticipated $125,000 septic/drain-field expense) and that the county administrator and Board of Supervisors are reallocating funds to cover the shortfall. On sewer allocation, Pammett said staff recently forwarded proposed allocations to HRSD, which returned questions and comments; he said county staff will meet next week to address HRSD’s questions and finalize recommendations for allocations that would allow initial development at Coastal Square and Duncan Manor.
Pammett concluded with a staffing update: second interviews are scheduled for two candidates for the environmental planner position. The commission had no further action items on these staff reports at the meeting.
