Council selects Huntsville for 2025 retreat after discussing frequency and objectives

Assistant City Manager Bennett reviewed three recommended retreat locations for Jan. 24—6, 2025 (Asheville, Huntsville, Chattanooga) and asked council for direction so staff could secure lodging and meeting space.
Council members debated whether an off-site retreat should occur every year or alternate with a smaller local check-in; after discussion about winter weather, programming and learning objectives, staff announced the council's preference: "Huntsville it is," Bennett said. Several members said Huntsvilles tech and makerspace offerings matched the councils interest in town-center planning and public-private partnerships, while others said an occasional local retreat could be appropriate for lighter agendas.
Staff will secure accommodations and meeting logistics for the Jan. 24—6, 2025 retreat in Huntsville and will return any required procurement items to council.
