A staff member explained the Watford Upstart program to the board, noting that the program provides a computer and Internet access for qualifying families and focuses on early literacy and letter/sound recognition as children enter kindergarten. "They add, they give them a computer. If they don't have Internet, they give them Internet," the presenter explained, urging broader parent outreach to increase participation beyond last year's 66 registered families.
Separately, district staff presented the early‑learning plan (literacy and math) for K–3 that uses Acadience assessments and tiered instruction (Tier 1–3) with modest growth targets. "Goals 1 to 3% increase," the presenter said of the plan's targets. The board accepted the plan by motion and will continue outreach through preschool screenings, flyers and principal communications.
