The board approved multiple policy updates at its Oct. 8 meeting, including additions clarifying staff social-media expectations, updating employment benefits language and adding guidance on reasonable-suspicion drug testing for employees.
Administration said policy language for GBCB was taken from standard model language and is intended to make staff aware that inappropriate social-media use can affect employment. The GHCD changes explicitly allow reasonable-suspicion drug testing for employees, with administrators expected to base suspicion on "articulated belief based on recorded specific facts." The JD compulsory-education changes simplify the homeschool affidavit requirement (no notarization) for filings after the noted effective date.
Trustees discussed communication steps: staff will distribute redlined policy updates to principals and faculty the day after the board meeting so that buildings can implement the changes and inform employees. Board members also emphasized that public comment should be used to surface issues but that deeper follow-up belongs in scheduled information or action agenda slots or through administrative meetings.
