District highlights Mantel Elementary $3,000 book grant and Gunnison Valley readathon

The board opened its meeting with district recognitions. Trevor, a district staff member, told trustees Mantel Elementary secured a $3,000 library grant from the Children and Teen Book Enhancement program.
"$3,000 isn't a lot, but when it goes towards books, it is a lot," Trevor said, thanking the school librarian for applying. He also noted Gunnison Valley Middle School's annual readathon raised just over $2,400 and that the district would match the funds to support grade-level activities. The board played a short Fox 13 "Cool School" clip recognizing Gunnison Valley's programs and new choir and coding offerings.
Board members and administrators praised staff and volunteers for fundraising and literacy work; the recognitions preceded citizen dialogue and the rest of the meeting agenda.
