Council rezones city parks to O‑1 open space to reflect uses on zoning map

On Oct. 1 the South Ogden City Council approved Ordinance 24‑13 to rezone all city parks to O‑1 (open space) on the city zoning map. Planning staff said the goal is to ensure the zoning map accurately shows parkland as open space and to discourage future development incompatible with park uses.
Planning staff noted the item was discussed at the Planning Commission’s Sept. 12 meeting where there was a public hearing and no public opposition; the commission recommended approval. “This is just to rezone all the parks in the city…to the O‑1 open space zone,” Planning staff (Ally) told the council. Councilors asked a few clarifying questions about how other cities display parks and schools on their maps before moving to approve the ordinance.
The ordinance passed by roll call. Staff said parks will remain recreational spaces and the map change is intended to make park locations and allowed uses clearer to residents and potential developers.
