The commission approved a one-year contract Dec. 23 with the Harvey County Legal Services Panel (HCLSP) to provide court-appointed legal representation in specified case types for a budgeted total of $245,760 for 2026.
County materials describe the HCLSP as providing representation in Child in Need of Care, juvenile offender, care and treatment (with statutory exceptions), certain misdemeanor and traffic cases, and waiver of parental notification hearings under K.S.A. §65-6705. The contract details case crediting and distribution procedures, continuing legal education requirements for guardians ad litem, and administrative provisions for panel administration. Becky Reimer moved to approve the contract and Terry Scott seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
