Palmer said design work revealed an irreparably damaged buried home‑run cable that increases the electrical scope estimate by about $400,000 versus earlier figures.
Palmer gave the commission estimated financial commitments: the local portion of the overall Runway 8‑26 project was estimated at $512,025 (split 50/50 between the city and county, about $256,012.50 each). The KAIP electrical request would be $719,290 (90% engineer’s estimate) with a 10% local match of $71,929 split evenly ($35,964.50 each). Palmer said the project would require closure of the main runway for roughly 30–35 days for the segment that crosses the main runway; drainage improvements are included in the scope. Commissioners asked staff to return next week with options to reduce or eliminate closures to the alternate runway before taking final action.
