District pushes classroom additions, restroom upgrades and a $13M grant application

The South Sanpete School District board on June 22 reviewed multiple facilities projects and a pending grant application to support new classroom construction and facility upgrades.
Jake walked members through photos and timelines for projects: two classroom additions at Ephraim Elementary (move‑in about Aug. 1) and Gunnison Elementary (about Aug. 15, delayed by soil issues), restroom refresh at Manti High (new partitions, mirrors, lighting and epoxy coatings), and press‑box and gym floor work underway. "Timeline for Ephraim Elementary is about August 1. Gunnison's probably about August 15 ish because of the soil problems," he said.
Jake also presented a proposed backlit sign for Manti High and gave a price range: "The price range is it's about 9,510 to get a bill made and installed," he said, and asked for the board's feedback even though the cost falls under the board approval threshold. On grant work, he said the district submitted an APEX grant application asking roughly $13 million from the state (about $6 million per building) to support two new facilities, with results expected July 15; he described the grant as competitive but said district staff put substantial effort into the application.
Board members discussed water conservation measures related to facility landscaping and noted coordination with local municipalities to reduce irrigation amid county water shortages. Members asked for continued updates on move‑in timing, grant outcomes and any required formal approvals if project costs exceed administrative thresholds.
