South Sanpete School Board approves projects, policy updates and personnel actions

The South Sanpete School District Board met on Feb. 11, 2026, and approved several operational and personnel items, including construction work on secure entries, pavement management, policy updates and the sale of a district-owned property in Gunnison.
Assistant Superintendent Trevor Powell highlighted district academic recognitions and metrics during the meeting, noting that "we're at 74% on grade level" for third-grade reading under the current metric and that statewide literacy legislation may raise the benchmark. Jake Sawyer, who presented the midyear budget and project updates, summarized operational items including a software transition and upcoming construction work. "Fifty-eight percent of the year has gone by," Sawyer said while reviewing midyear budget status.
The board voted to accept minutes and warrants, approved policy updates (BC and GBCA) and facilities rental policy DD, and authorized pavement maintenance this summer. Trustees also reviewed capital plans for elementary projects using $4.1 million of state funds and approved the cost as presented.
In real estate business, the board accepted a full-price offer for the Gunnison property used for bus storage and approved terms that allow the buyer occupancy until the end of July to permit district relocation logistics. The board moved into and returned from a closed executive session on personnel matters and afterward approved provisional teacher recommendations and multiple new hires.
The board adjourned after thanking retiring employees for their years of service and closing routine business. The district plans further design and pricing work for secure-entry projects and expects construction and maintenance work to occur this summer.
