District wins $500,000 in rural sports facility grants; capital projects move forward

The board learned it will receive $500,000 from the state rural schools sports-facility grant program: $300,000 for Gunnison High and $200,000 for Manatee High.
"Gunnison High School was awarded 300,000 and Mananta High School was awarded 200,000," Jake said, explaining the grants will be used to renovate gyms, update restroom facilities and, in some cases, improve entryways and seating. Jake described planned work such as sanding and refinishing gym floors, replacing wooden bleachers with new bleachers, repainting walls and installing storefront entry glass for Gunnison’s gym entry.
Separately, Jake updated the board on FY25 capital projects: vocational shops were nearing turnover to the district, a dust-collection system was installed and operational walk-throughs were completed, and staff noted they will need a forklift to service the dust hopper on a weekly basis. Bid results for elementary additions are expected soon and the district is prioritizing projects for the coming year.
