The South Sanpete board reviewed and approved multiple policy updates and new policies during the Nov. 11 meeting.
Trevor (speaker 3) presented revisions to EAA to add bus markings, lighting and inspection requirements to align policy with national specifications. He also presented changes to EBB to formalize emergency-preparedness steps, including a biennial needs assessment, named roles for resource officers and school guardians, and the requirement for universal access key boxes for first responders. Board members discussed confidentiality limits for guardian identities and cited state statute restricting public disclosure.
The board added IKF language to curriculum policy to incorporate a short, age-appropriate firearms-safety segment (3–5 minutes) required by state law that instructs students what to do if they encounter a weapon. Jake (speaker 5) introduced a new DBB donations policy and the accompanying DBB-1 form to clarify transfer of ownership, naming rights and documentation. Speaker 4 explained KL and KL-1 consolidate public-complaint processes and add the required Public Education Hotline link; some reports may route to the USBE fraud/audit hotline.
Each policy change was moved and approved by voice vote. Board members asked staff to continue coordinating implementation steps, including training requirements for guardians and timelines for access-key installations.
