The Cedar Park City Council on Tuesday read a proclamation recognizing July 2026 as Parks and Recreation Month and celebrated staff work to expand programming and facilities across the city.
Mike DeVito, director of Parks and Recreation, thanked staff and partner departments for recent events and highlighted upcoming programming tied to the proclamation. "The theme for Parks and Rec month this year is the power of parks," DeVito said, and pointed to last weekend’s Millburn Park event as an example of community turnout. He listed the department’s upcoming schedule, including a family movie night at Milburn Pool and a nature-collage workshop at the new "recreate" facility.
Josh, the department’s recreation manager, previewed the facility’s grand opening and described a full day of demonstrations from 4–7 p.m., followed by adult programming 8–10 p.m., featuring concerts, arts demonstrations and complimentary beer and wine for the adult evening event. "We will be showing off what the building will be doing," he said, noting that the facility was repurposed from an old library and will host classes and senior-center activities.
Council members praised the parks staff and the Parks & Trails Foundation for their work supporting volunteers and programming. The proclamation and remarks emphasized equity and inclusion in park access and outlined planned capital improvements tied to the Parks Capital Project Fund.
