Brownsburg reports sharp uptick in building permits and inspections through May

Development Services reported 174 residential permits issued through May 1 (more than double last year), 15 commercial permits, and over 2,000 inspections (an increase of about 500) as town staff said planning activity and enforcement cases are up year-over-year.
Steve Fletcher presented the Development Services report and said residential permitting remains strong with 174 residential permits issued through May 1 — a figure he said more than doubles the count from the same time last year. "That's an increase of over 500 inspections compared to the same time last year," Fletcher added when describing building-inspection activity.
Fletcher told council commercial permitting also remains active (15 commercial permits) and planning staff have processed 26 APC cases this year, up from nine the prior year. He noted compliance staff has managed 56 formal law-enforcement cases and acknowledged recent staff additions — Lauren Busta Hawk, Shannon, Mitchell and Jessica Herring — that he said will help maintain response and permitting capacity.
Council members asked whether the increase reflects a regional trend or is localized to Brownsburg; Fletcher said he would investigate and report back. Members signaled interest in understanding whether neighboring communities showed similar growth.
