During his operational update the chief briefed the commission on a recent multi-agency incident in western Hendricks County that led to a police action shooting and the discovery of a deceased female on the property. The chief said state police (ISP) are conducting the criminal investigation and that he has initiated an internal affairs review to ensure compliance with department policies and procedures.
"I did initiate an internal affairs investigation," the chief said, adding that the department would place the involved officer on paid administrative leave, provide a certified individual to the officer for support under state law, and make resources available for the officer's mental-health needs. The chief said there is no additional information he could release at the time because the criminal investigation remains active.
Commissioners and attendees were told Hendricks County has offered peer-support resources and scheduled a CISM debrief; a letter from Hendricks County Sheriff Jack Sadler, read at the meeting, thanked Brownsburg officers for their response and invited personnel to the debriefing. The chief said the department will cooperate with ISP and with internal policy reviews as the investigation proceeds.
