The commission heard a report on the department's annual police-and-fire youth camp, which the chief said ran two sessions and filled quickly. "We did go slightly above the numbers of individuals we were going to let our children into the camp, so we are over 200," the chief said, adding that the cap had initially been 100 per session but staff accommodated more children and family members across both sessions.
The chief thanked civilian staff and partner agencies and noted Lucas Oil provided the hosting location at the drag strip for its space and capacity. A closing ceremony for the second session was scheduled for Friday, June 12, at 11:30 a.m. Commissioners read a thank-you card from attendees praising the free camp and said the program demonstrates positive community interactions between the departments and residents.
