Residents warn Brownsburg RDC that school will return seeking TIF funds and may seek referendum

Public commenters told the Town of Brownsburg Redevelopment Commission that school officials have indicated they will return seeking TIF support and, if unsuccessful, could pursue a referendum.
At the public-comment period, John Raybould said he opposed using TIF money for the school and warned the school would continue to press for funding. "If they don't get the money they will go to a referendum," Raybould said, and asked the commission to prepare a comparable list showing what the town would lose if it reallocates funds in the school’s favor. David Wyant, who identified himself with a local post office box, echoed that account and said school representatives told township and school engagement meetings they will return "in '27, they'll be back in '28" seeking additional funds depending on state legislative actions. Wyant also asked commission members to "lean forward and speak clearly into the mics" to assist the public listening in the room.
The remarks came during the meeting's citizen-comment period before agenda items and preceded a presentation and two votes on annual TIF resolutions. Commissioners did not take immediate action on the requests during public comment; later business included a consultant presentation and votes on annual determinations for TIF allocation areas.
