Brownsburg police credit multi-jurisdiction task force after major cargo-theft recoveries, arrests

The Brownsburg Board of Police Commissioners heard an update June 9 from the chief of police on a multi-jurisdiction cargo-theft investigation that involved the Brownsburg narcotics unit, Clarksville Police Department, the FBI in Louisville and the Louisville Metro Police Department. The chief said officers assisted out of state to follow investigative leads that culminated in a May 4 search warrant of a Louisville warehouse.
"They were able to recover $660,000 worth of merchandise," the chief said, adding that Louisville arrested at least one individual on state charges the night the warrant was served and that more arrests are expected. The chief described the case as part of a wider pattern of cargo-theft rings affecting commerce across jurisdictions.
The chief also told the commission the investigation helped recover stolen vehicles and identified a storage location for stolen goods. He said officers traveled out of state to assist and coordinated with task-force partners to carry the investigation forward. "Tremendous job and they're continuing to follow through as this is something that's going across through our nation and impacting our trades and goods," he said.
Commissioners did not take additional action on the case during the meeting; the chief said follow-up prosecutions and arrests are pending and that the department will continue coordination with partner agencies.
