Decatur council approves operational procedure for Memorial Park splash pad

The council approved a council procedure that establishes operating-season hours, authorized closures for weather and lightning, on-site rules (such as restrictions on alcohol and tobacco), maintenance protocols, and emergency procedures for the Memorial Park splash pad.

Staff explained that the draft defines a Thursday maintenance/late-opening window so staff can perform state testing, refill chemical supplies, and check moving parts without overtime; "we need one day of the week that staff can come in and assign as many resources as possible to make sure our chemical reserves are full" (Nate). Council members asked clarifying questions about attire and the first weekend of operations; staff said the procedure will be posted on the city website and reviewed annually. A councilmember moved to adopt the operational procedure; the motion received a first and second and passed with the ayes recorded by the mayor.
