Alpine City Council approved its consent calendar at the Aug. 26 meeting and authorized staff to award a contract to procure five long-lead valves for the Canyon Crest Road pipeline for an amount not to exceed $81,000.
Public works staff said the valves have a lead time of 22 weeks or longer and recommended bidding and awarding within that cap to prevent project delays. "These valves are expensive... 5 valves would be in the neighborhood of 81,000," said the staff presentation. Councilman Kelly Law moved approval with the $81,000 cap and Councilwoman Chrissy Hanneman seconded the motion. The roll-call vote recorded five "yes" votes and the consent calendar passed.
Staff said if lower bids arrive the city will accept the lower price and that the $81,000 figure is a maximum authorization to avoid losing the procurement window. The council did not discuss alternate funding sources at the meeting and directed staff to complete the bidding process within the stated parameters.
The vote authorizes staff to finalize award under that budget cap and preserves council oversight of final contract terms.
