Angela Lucky Vaughn, president of the Grand Prairie NAACP, said organizers changed the parade route this year to avoid having participants cross railroad tracks.
"So, this year, we will not be crossing the railroad tracks," Vaughn said, adding that the new lineup location is 2600 Hospital Boulevard (the old hospital). She said lineup begins at 8:00 a.m. and the parade is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m.
Vaughn said the parade will travel down Abrams into Grand Prairie to Jefferson and then turn down Martin Luther King Street, entering the Dalworth community for a program with speakers and student performances. The route change was presented as a safety measure to reduce risks associated with train crossings.
