Grand Prairie plans weeklong Martin Luther King Jr. events, parade on Jan. 19

Angela Lucky Vaughn, president of the Grand Prairie NAACP, said the city will stage a weeklong slate of events honoring Martin Luther King Jr., headlined by a parade on the federal holiday, Jan. 19.
“We have a wonderful team of community individuals that live here in Grand Prairie, and we have put together a fantastic Martin Luther King whole week of events and a parade,” Vaughn said on the community program. She said stakeholders include the school district, city employees, the Park and Recreation Department and the Police Department.
Vaughn described in-street programming that will follow the parade in the Dalworth community, including student performances at the Dalworth Recreation Center and a program with speakers. She said organizers will offer free hot dogs, chips, cookies and drinks, and that a limited supply of free T-shirts will be available to attendees.
Organizers are asking parade participants and others to register via the City of Grand Prairie website. Vaughn also emphasized that the events are meant to promote unity and community-building across neighborhoods.
