Council postpones Board of Adjustments appointments, names John Dugan to Bayou steering committee

The council deferred action on filling one regular member and alternate slots on the Board of Adjustments because few applicants are on file and council preferred to wait until more applicants come forward. Garland Copeland, who said he had applied previously and that quorum problems had delayed board action, urged council to appoint committed volunteers so planning matters are not left in limbo.
On separate items, council nominated and elected Mark Townsend as mayor pro tem by voice vote. Council also appointed John Dugan (1009 Royal Oak Drive) as the city's representative to the Dickinson Bayou Watershed Steering Committee; Dugan said he applied years ago and described his interest in drainage and flood issues. Staff confirmed the appointments and noted continued work on planning and board scheduling.
