DeSoto certifies election results and swears in Perrette Parker as Place 2 council member

Mayor Rachel L. Proctor read the certificate of election for Place 2 and certified Perrette Parker as the duly elected council member from the June 13 runoff. "Perrette Parker, having received 55.10% of the votes for a total of 2,194 votes," Proctor read aloud while attesting the certificate and affixing the city seal.
Judge Vonda Bailey administered the oath of office and Parker repeated it before thanking supporters in a lengthy acceptance address. "This is not a me win. This is a we win," Parker said, calling for residents to "concentrate on solutions and not only problems" as she begins her new term. The council then moved and seconded to adjourn the special meeting; the motion passed unanimously at 7:13 p.m.
