SPID to drill monitoring wells after DEQ letter on rapid infiltration basin

District staff said the state Department of Environmental Quality recently issued a letter that requires additional study and monitoring related to the district’s rapid infiltration basin. Staff said they met with DEQ on site (May 7) and received the DEQ letter around June 10; the district must submit a plan and supporting study that complies with items in the DEQ report.
As part of the next steps, staff said the district will likely need to drill three monitoring wells about 30 feet deep to collect groundwater data; if approval is obtained to use a rip concept north of I‑80, the state or other permitting agencies could require additional wells. Staff and consultants will continue compiling the reports and working with DEQ and other agencies on permit requirements.
