The Stansbury Park Improvement District manager reported that while state crews were digging to locate a buried 10-inch waterline they exposed a break about five feet below the surface, taking Saltair and the marina out of service until repairs can be completed.
"They're gonna be out of service, both Saltair and the Marina for until they get it repaired," the manager said, noting the break occurred where crews were digging through riprap. The manager added the district does not yet know precisely when the water will be restored and emphasized the need to have service repaired before a major Saltair event scheduled for Aug. 8.
Board members asked whether unusually high measured flow at the Saltair/marina complex reflected the leak. The manager said measured flows have been "much, much higher" than the theoretical calculations and that staff will re-check flow models after the leak is fixed. The record shows the board discussed both the urgency of repair because of the upcoming event and the uncertainty around timing.
