The Stansbury Park Improvement District board voted to waive a late fee for a Stansbury Service Agency account after hearing that a June payment landed on Saturday, Aug. 28, and was not processed until the following business day.
Jim Hanselka, introduced to the board as the representative for the service agency, said the agency’s payment was mailed and signed on the 27th and delivered the 28th but did not appear on the district’s account until the 30th; the wire cleared on Sept. 1. "The 28th landed on a Saturday," Hanselka said, arguing that weekend processing should not impose a community penalty. District staff said weekend receipts are processed on the next business day and that errors have been corrected in prior cases.
Board members debated whether to make the community — rather than the district’s customers — cover the administrative cost of retroactive fixes. One board member proposed that staff time spent to reconcile the account be added to the bill and that the late fees for this single occurrence be waived; the motion was seconded and passed with the board recording two yeas and one nay. The board directed staff to use the district’s existing process (obtaining receipts and documenting delivery) going forward.
