The DEIB Commission approved staff to place minimum orders for promotional items to support the "You Belong in Hutto" campaign and upcoming events such as the Fourth of July and the November 150th celebration.
Communications manager Abby presented options and cost estimates for items including a small hippo plush (per-item prices and bulk discounts were discussed), fans/hand coolers, koozies, pins and stickers. Commissioners favored a pilot approach: place minimum orders across three item types (hippos, koozies and fans), evaluate uptake at the July event, and reorder for the November celebration if needed. One commissioner proposed asking attendees to complete a short, 2–5 question survey in exchange for a giveaway to gather quick public feedback.
The commission voted to authorize staff to proceed with minimum orders; staff said the vendor is on the city's vendor list and can meet quick turnaround expectations.
