Abby (staff) said the city manager will present the proposed budget to council and that staff submitted the same dollar amount the commission had last year; she advised the commission to work within that amount and reallocate internally rather than request additional funds without justification. Commissioners stressed the need to tie requests to the resident survey’s slice data: "When we look at the results, it tells us that our biggest risk area is here. I feel like that's where the focus needs to go," one commissioner said. Staff referenced calendar deadlines, noting the proposed budget must be filed with the city secretary by July 31; commissioners assigned homework to prioritize the top three items they want completed in the next year so those items could inform cost estimates before the filing deadline.
Stan and commissioners agreed Stan would return in July with refined materials and that the commission would finalize priorities and attendant budget justifications at that meeting so staff can prepare a clear submission to council.
