Chair Sarah Chapman described the commission's previous Shark Tank event, in which citizens and commission members pitched volunteer-led ideas for limited commission support. Chapman said the format produced civic projects including the Bradford pear initiative and the art-show expansion, and asked whether the commission wanted to repeat it in 2027.
Commissioners supported bringing the event back and suggested narrowing pitches to three holidays or themes so the program yields events spread across the year. The commission approved a motion to dedicate the June meeting to Shark Tank so parks & rec can advertise the opportunity and the commission can prepare a budget request for September. "The Bradford pear removal was an activity that came directly from that meeting," the chair said as an example of the process’ impact.
