City manager cites heavy tax-season workload, highlights Arbor Day and community 5K

Vice Mayor opened the April 21 work session and invited City Manager John to report on department operations. John said the tax office fielded heavy demand during tax season: "2,858 people came in and actually had in-office appointments," roughly 2,797 e-files were processed and staff handled "just about" 5,400 tax calls, and mail filings remain being worked through, John said.
John also highlighted community events: a timed 5K at Eichelberger scheduled for April 25 running from about 8 a.m. to noon with vendors and food, and a fully booked Arbor Day distribution (355 trees and 110 native plants) with unclaimed items released first-come, first-served at 11 a.m. Saturday. He credited Parks & Rec staff and the Rotary Club for pollinator plantings at Rip Rap Park and said staff will follow up on signage and celebration plans for the park renaming. Council members asked staff to provide signage timing and confirmed logistics for tree pickup.
