Councilman J.J. Cruz reported on the April 27 Economic Development meeting and on several workforce and park initiatives. Staff and partners have submitted a $16 million grant application for the SCAT Park to the Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Corporation, and council packet material says SCAT Park bidding was scheduled to begin May 14, 2026.
Cruz and Councilman Andy Hogg also reported that SCA (a nonprofit recruiter) hosted regional engagement and training; a welding and CDL class is scheduled to graduate May 15, 2026, and the Williston Industrial Park Phase II study is underway to compare with the 2023 Phase I study. The minutes note the DIG STEMM festival was rescheduled for August 8, 2026 and the county approved a $5,000 annual donation to the Barnwell YMCA.
