Vernon County authorizes $18,600 budget transfer to recruit a finance director

Vernon County approved a budget amendment July 25 to transfer $18,600 from the Finance Department wages and fringes budget to Human Resources recruitment to hire Public Administration Associates to recruit a Finance Director.
The Finance Director position has been vacant since March. Administrative Coordinator Cassandra Hanan told the board the county had screened candidates and previously made one offer that was declined; hiring for finance director roles has been difficult. Hanan said the county has saved $41,608.81 in wages and benefits during the vacancy and proposed using $18,600 of those savings to pay the recruitment firm. Motion by Supervisor Jacobson, seconded by Supervisor Stanek to adopt Resolution 2024-35 carried on voice vote.
Hanan said the county hopes to extend an offer by the end of October; the minutes do not specify additional recruitment terms or a contingency plan if a candidate is not secured by that date.
