Barnwell County Council recognized Representative Lonnie Hosey and adopted a local designation naming Highway 78 — from the Bamberg County line to the Aiken County line — "The Purple Heart Highway of Barnwell County." Chairman Freddie L. Houston Sr. said Senator Brad Hutto and other senators signed the bill honoring Hosey's service; Representative Hosey thanked the council for the recognition and described circumstances that led to his Purple Heart.
