Police launch targeted speed-enforcement campaign funded by state grant

The Westminster Police Department announced a targeted speed-enforcement initiative funded by a grant from the Maryland Department of Highway Safety. Chief Price said officers will conduct enforcement at selected locations through the end of August with the primary goals of encouraging safe driving and reducing the number and severity of crashes.
"This initiative is funded through a grant from the Maryland Department of Highway Safety... on select dates through the end of August, we're going to have officers out there conducting this targeted speed enforcement at various locations throughout the city," Chief Price said. The department said it will coordinate with state highways where appropriate and focus enforcement on locations with recurring speed or crash issues.
Council members voiced support for the effort as a public-safety measure. Chief Price said the department will share details of enforcement dates and locations as operational planning permits; no enforcement schedule was adopted at the meeting.
