Commission approves Slick City Action Park at former Big Lots site on W. Imperial Highway

The La Habra Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit for Slick City Action Park to occupy 1020 West Imperial Highway, the former Big Lots space in a neighborhood shopping center.

Associate planner Jacob presented the staff report, saying the tenant improvement proposal includes a playground area, assembly room, toddler play area, kitchen, restrooms, offices and storage; no exterior changes are proposed. "The proposed facility will have a variety of sports courts, seating areas, and slides, which replicate the acceleration and thrill of a water slide, but they don't use any water," Jacob said. Staff told commissioners the site has sufficient parking, with the parking study concluding the center has approximately 455 weekday and 243 weekend spaces available versus an estimated 116 spaces per hour needed for the proposed use.

Myca Tran, representing the applicant, described Slick City as a family‑oriented indoor recreation brand with locations in other states and California sites in Ontario and Oceanside. "It's for all ages," Tran said when asked if adults can use the slides, noting everyone completes a waiver and that the business can accommodate adult tickets as well as junior tickets. Commissioners asked whether the entire facility could be rented for private events; Tran said she would follow up with specifics.

After questions, the commission voted to approve resolution 26‑13 granting conditional use permit 26Dash0003. The decision becomes final in 10 working days unless appealed to City Council.
