Planning commission approves La Habra Host Lions Club 77th Corn Festival and parade

The La Habra Planning Commission voted to approve a special-event permit for the La Habra Host Lions Club’s 77th annual corn festival and parade, scheduled for Aug. 21–23 at El Centro Lions Park with a parade along La Habra Boulevard. Ash Saeed, senior planner, told the commission the festival will run Friday evening and Saturday–Sunday daytime/evening hours and that staff recommends approval after reviews by LA County Fire and OC Health.
"Based on these considerations, staff recommends the planning commission approve the 77th annual Lions Club corn festival and parade," said Ash Saeed, senior planner. He told the commission the event layout includes rides, food vendors and ADA parking at City Hall and the community center, and staff estimated the festival could attract about 15,030 attendees over the three days. Katie Elmer, the city’s recreation manager and liaison to the La Habra Host Alliance, said the applicant is "very excited" to return the festival to El Centro Lions Park and has planned measures to minimize traffic and street-closure impacts.
Vice Chair Cardenas opened and closed the public hearing after no members of the public spoke in opposition. Commissioner Manley moved to adopt Resolution No. 26-10 for special-event permit SEP2L26-0004, seconded by Commissioner Logan Cannon; the commission passed the item (4–0). The clerk noted the permit will become final in 10 working days unless appealed to the city council.
