Community Services Department outlines $4M budget slice, grant funding and priorities

The presenter said the city’s general fund is about $72,900,000 and that the Community Services General Fund portion is roughly $4,000,000 (presenter earlier referenced $5,000,000 then corrected to $4,000,000). The department’s non–general-fund revenue includes grants and enterprise funds that materially expand program capacity. "Of that general fund is 72,900,000. Of the 72,900,000, our Community Services General Fund budget, is about 5,000,000... I'm sorry... we're at 4,000,000," the staff member said during the presentation.
Staff identified several ongoing priorities: graffiti abatement funded partly by CDBG (about $60,000), the museum operating as an enterprise fund, the employment and training program (which met enrollment targets this year), expanded senior services and a planned Cultural Arts and Museum District connecting the Depot Theatre, the Museum, the Historical Museum and the Library. Staff also noted an anticipated multi-year grant from OC Waste and Recycling intended to renovate a collaborative site; the official said the award is not yet finalized and the amount will be announced when the award letter is received.
The department asked commissioners to help promote programs and provide scheduling input for subcommittees; no budget adoption vote occurred at this meeting.
