Bad Dog Tennis reports rising enrollment and regional draw for Highland Village courts
Summary
Coach Christopher Brown told council enrollment increased from 185 (2024) to 220 (most recent) and that the Highland Village tennis center draws many nonresidents for practice and tournaments; he flagged shared-court conflicts with pickleball and limited courts for tournaments.

Christopher Brown (Coach Brown) updated council on Bad Dog Tennis operations at the Highland Village courts, saying the program serves ages 5 through 18 and supports college pathway coaching for competitive players. Brown told council 2024 enrollment was 185 with 85 Highland Village residents and in the most recent year enrollment rose to about 220 (99 residents, 121 nonresidents). He described adult classes, tournament travel and community outreach.
"In 2024, we had 185 total participants enrolled, 85 of which were Highland Village residents... This last year, our numbers grew to 220 total participants enrolled, 99 residents, 121 nonresidents," Brown said during his presentation. Brown and staff discussed facility constraints (only four courts), occasional damage where nets or straps are broken when pickleball players use the tennis courts, and limited tournament hosting due to court count. Staff noted capital investments (lighting) and ongoing cooperative arrangements with schools and neighboring communities.
Council thanked Brown for the update and asked staff to continue coordinating scheduling and court access to minimize conflict between sports.
