Council approves $126 for library board’s virtual ALA training

The Hutto City Council voted unanimously to approve $126.25 for the library advisory board to purchase a group link to the American Library Association’s United for Libraries virtual training scheduled July 28.
Kristen Phillips, Hutto’s library director, told the council the training covers governance-versus-management practices, advocacy, policy governance and financial stewardship and that early‑bird pricing closes July 17. “It’s a virtual training, so there’s no travel involved…we would do the training right here in the library’s meeting room,” Phillips said. She described last year’s sessions as a series of 45‑minute trainings with Q&A that helped the board align on budgeting and strategic planning.
Mayor Snyder moved to approve the expenditure and Councilmember Zapata seconded. The council called the vote and the motion passed 7–0. Staff said they will record the session and make it available to the library advisory board for later review.
