District Clerk seeks staff to absorb five new civil courts and comply with SB9 reporting

District Clerk Marilyn Burgess outlined three targeted service enhancements tied to recently authorized new civil courts and new statutory bail/reporting requirements under Senate Bill 9. Burgess said the civil division lacks sufficient back-office staff to support five new civil district courts and requested eight support positions for registry, data-quality control, and help-desk support so that each court is properly serviced.
She also requested 14 assistant court clerks so civil courts will no longer share clerks across multiple courts, a structure Burgess said has created delays. For SB9 compliance the clerk asked for three positions at the Joint Processing Center to handle increased data elements, cross-county reporting and electronic notice flows tied to the new public-safety report system.
Burgess warned that without those positions the court system risks processing delays, weaker supervision and impaired public-safety reporting; she said the requests are minimum staffing needs to meet statutory and operational demands.
