Renville County adopts public comment policy to meet SB 2180 requirements

The Renville County Commission on June 17 adopted Resolution 2025-15 to implement a new public comment policy required by SB 2180 and Chapter 44-04 of the North Dakota Century Code. The policy places a public-comment item as the first non-procedural agenda item at every regular meeting and sets rules for speaker cards, time limits and decorum.
The policy requires a completed speaker card with name, address and a current-or-previous-agenda item; grants three minutes per speaker and limits total public comment time to 30 minutes; prohibits yielding time to others; and allows written submissions to be considered if delivered at least 24 hours before the meeting. The resolution notes comments must be pertinent to county business and not include defamatory or confidential material.
