County Sheriff Roger Hutchinson updated the board on patrol equipment needs in both the Oct. 1 and Oct. 15 meetings. On Oct. 3 minutes the board recorded a Motorola camera system estimate of $119,000 and a $30,000 grant available to the department. The Oct. 15 minutes state the sheriff has $35,000 in grant funds available and that the estimated camera equipment cost is $44,000.
At the Oct. 15 meeting, commissioners discussed funding options and suggested the sheriff apply for county gaming funds. The board approved a motion to pay $11,200 from the county general fund to decommission the 2019 Ford Expedition and install required equipment in the new patrol vehicle; the motion carried by unanimous vote.
The minutes do not record a final procurement decision for the camera system or a firm source of funds for the camera/server purchase; the sheriff indicated he will pursue available grants and sell the old vehicle to help offset costs.
