Board backs application for USDA rural business branding grant to support county marketing

The Board approved a resolution authorizing an application to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Business Development Grant program to fund a community branding campaign. Administrative Coordinator Cassandra Hanan explained the Resource and Community Development Department is partnering with UW–Madison Extension to develop messaging assets; the grant would reimburse contracted design work for visual assets and the county could request up to $75,000.
Resolution 2024-09 notes the preferred firm’s cost range and that the grant is reimbursement-only, meaning Vernon County must pay expenses up front and seek USDA reimbursement. The Board adopted the resolution on a voice vote; staff said the branding effort aims to promote local business retention and attraction across the county.
