Sheriff Nate Gustafson reported to the Board of Commissioners that a deputy who left the county had been hired by Rolette City before signing a county contract, and therefore did not sign the county agreement. Gustafson said the department currently has three people interested in filling the vacancy but any hire must attend the next available academy; waivers to postpone the first academy are possible only for strong reasons.
Gustafson said recent pay raises and investments in newer vehicles have made county wages more competitive. The sheriff’s office did not provide a timeline for filling the position in the minutes, and no motions or hiring actions were recorded at the meeting.
